The thrust on academic excellence in the classroom has been accompanied by an effort to build up the Vidyalaya as co-educational residential institution. To create the feeling "HOME AWAY FROM HOME" The House System of Vidyalaya functions as an effective instrument for the development of personality and creativity of students. It furthers team spirit, by involving students in a variety of co curricular and extra curricular activities. The Inter House competitions, organisational responsibilities, Games, Sports & Art in educational activities help students to groom themselves into competent & self-confident individuals. The value of dignity of labour & concern for environment is sought to be incorporated by self-help activities that are part & parcel of the daily schedule of Vidyalaya. Teachers who stays in residence provide teaching help after class hours through remedial teaching sessions held in the afternoons. Teachers as House Masters or House Mistresses maintain a close association with students and provide the necessary guidance to children.

Games & Sports:-

Games and Sports are the integral part of catering Team spirit, leadership qualities, discipline along with physical fitness, neuromuscular skills. It also promote the spirit of cooperation and  sportsman.  Apart from  the same, young talents are identified at an early stage and are helped to excel in their chosen field by specialized coaching through PETs/SAI (Sports Authority of India) Coaches at selected venues.

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti organizes  school level, cluster level, regional level and national level competitions in sports and games every year.  Specialised courses like, Archery, Judo and Gymnastic are also encouraged in some of the JNVs situated in the tribal areas of the country where the same are popular sports.

Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti is a state under School Games Federation of India and the Navodaya National teams compete with other state teams under SGFI banner.  The progress made by the vidyalaya on sports  front is commendable.    

Scouts and Guides/NCC:-

The Scout & Guides movement was started by Lord Barden Powel & Lady Barden Powel at London in  1899.

The Scout & Guides aimed for character development towards happy citizenship through natural rather than artificial means.

Promise & Law:-

i)On  my honour ,I promise that I will do my best:

ii) To do my duty to God and my country

iii)To help other people and

iv)To obey the Scout & Guide law.

Many Students from the school have excelled themselves and brought laurels and have  represented school in several activities.

The school is recognized as a state for Scouts and Guides activities by BHARAT SCOUTS & GUIDES with 32 Scouts and 32 Guides. Some of them have been presented in Rajya Puraskar and some have participated in Jamboree and other National level activities like Adventure etc.

Art and Music In Education Programme:-

The Art in Education programme is an expansion of co-curricular activities of the Vidyalaya. Besides providing an opportunity for students to inculcate nationalistic values through cross cultural interchange, it also emphasizes upon education enrichment and integration with the community in which the Vidyalaya is located.

Eminent personalities  from the  various fields, arts and sciences are invited to interact with students.

The Art in Education programme also aims at enriching the curricula of the formal education system. It also aims at strengthening universal values and promoting group activities whereby joy of learning is achieved. It aims at personality development of students by emphasizing child centered and result oriented activity.

Objectives of ART Education:-

i)Inculcation of time  tested and enduring universal values.

ii)Providing opportunities through ART in Education for Social and National  Development in which Art Education Acts as catalyst.

Pace Setting Activities:-
The Vidyalaya is proud of being a Pace -Setting school endeavouring to be a role model in the district.  We keep harm and positive nexus with the neighbouring state schools and neighbours too in different forms.  Some of our Pace-Setting activities are:

*  Shramadan in the nearby villages, i.e., Dr. Banjari, Betaguda, Jammi.
* Inter school drawing and painting competition at MR Boys High School,  Parlakhemundi followed with distribution of prizes to talented students.
* Conducted Inter School Cricket Tournament in which 9 schools from Parlakhemundi participated.
* Health camps are also organised.
* Assistance and awareness of literary programme in Tribal bastis, with free study material.
* Computer education programme for the nearby state schools.
* Volunteers to assist in pulse polio centres.
